Merry Christmas to Everyone!!

postheadericon Basin Complex Fire~Big Sur

Big Sur Burning. For the last five years I’ve hiked and backpacked in the Ventana Wilderness, Big Sur back country. The solitude, vistas, and forest of the inner core is beyond words. I think that has changed forever, now. Many structures may be lost, and some of them historic. I’ve included some links to the best sites about the conflagration. Fire changes everything. But it does not destroy everything.

These are the links for following the fire:

postheadericon Smazy Skies

Mount Tam obscured by smoke. The last few days have been a lungful of soot from all the fires in Northern California. In Mendocino County alone over 40 fires are burning untended–too few assets to put out the flames. Most of these fires reportedly were caused by lightening strikes, too bad, as we could experience that same kind of weather again this weekend. A large fire on Walker Ridge, is burning fairly close to one of my co-workers property in Lake County. Although no significant structures are on his property, he still has quite a few trees that would be a shame to lose. Smoke in San Rafael, Ca.

These pictures were taken yesterday. Today, and especially further North in Santa Rosa, Ca., the air quality was much worse. I’ve never seen it so bad, here. It’s like Los Angeles smog in the 70’s.
